2017 ANNUAL MEETING – FEB. 25TH, 2018 11:00 AM

Combined Church Service 10:00 A.M. St. James Church Hall

The annual congregational meeting to review the 2017 committee reports and to elect the 2018 church leadership is February 25th at 11:00 A.M. A combined church service in the church hall at 10:00 A. M. will precede the Annual Meeting.

You can download ANNUAL REPORT 2017.  Also to be reviewed at the Annual Meeting is the St. James Governance Manual_ v1.2. This manual documents the governance philosophy and structure at St. James.

The Governance Manual is intended to replace the St. James Constitution published in 1986.  An electronic copy of the Governance Manual is also available on the church web site under the NEWS tab. Hard copies of the 2017 Annual Report and the Governance Manual will be available at the worship services February 18th and 25th.


Envelopes are ready for pickup on the table at the back of the service. If you didn’t have envelopes for 2017 but would like them for 2018, please contact Wendy in the church office.

For anyone wishing to go on PAR (Pre-Authorized Remittance) to have your offering deducted monthly from your bank account, brochures are on the table next to the envelopes.

Online donations can be made at any time through our website, Click the “Donate” tab at the top of any page, or the “Donate Now” button. This will take you to the secure CanadaHelps page.

Either one-time or monthly donations can be made, directed to General Offering, Mission & Service, Memorial Gift, Outreach or special appeals. Pay by credit card or PayPal online. Whichever way you choose to support the mission of St James, thank you for your donations.


YOU are invited to be a part of the Coldest Night of the Year to help make a difference in our Community. On Sat. Feb. 24 we will be joining thousands of other Canadians across Canada to raise awareness for the hungry, homeless, and hurting. All funds raised in Waterdown will be in support of Drummond House.

St. James is the starting and ending venue for the event: 2km or 5km walks. Registration opens @ 4pm. Walks begin @ 5pm. A warm, light meal will be served between 6 & 8pm for all walkers & volunteers.

If you are unable to walk or be out in the cold for any length of time, volunteers are needed to assist inside in different capacities. For more details cnoy/org/waterdown or Linda Baksh,, 905-689-1098


We are looking for university students to:

  • Sing with the Senior Choir
  • Occasionally perform solo (voice or instrumental)
  • Perform with the Praise Bank (singing or on your instrument of choice)
  • Further opportunity available to work with the choir as a conducting apprentice or to practice and perform on Casavant organ
  • September 2017 – April 2018
  • Honorarium available

Positions Open: Volunteer Coordinator & Volunteers for 9am refreshments

After 10+ years as coordinator, Wendy is stepping away from this volunteer role. “It is a great
way to get to know people, & doesn’t take a lot of your time.”

Volunteers are also needed for the following opportunities. Can you help once a month or once
every 6-8 weeks with any one of these?

  • supply baked items (store bought is fine)
  • supply fruit (pre-cut store bought is fine)
  • Make coffee/tea before 9am
  • run dishwasher after the service @ 10am
  • Clean up refreshment table @ 10am
  • put away clean dishes

Library Update

Our new church Library is open in the Narthex, with our new Library Team of Joan Forsyth & Ann Robbins. You are welcome to browse; if you find a book to take out, sign the card in the book pocket and leave the card in the card box on the library shelf next to the coat closet. Please return the book within 3 weeks and place it in the book return box. It will be re-shelved by our Library Team.

No books are currently being accepted as donations to the Library. Please keep books for our fall Book Sale. Thank you.


the Craft Cupboard in the Parlor has beautifully handcrafted items for baby gifts, children, doll clothes, as well as lap quilts, bed quilts, mittens & hats. To purchase items, please see Wendy in the church office, or ask Rev Cathy or Wendy to direct you to anyone from the Tuesday morning stitching group.

Bring your mug on Sunday to the Cafe Service to keep our delicious coffee hot during the worship service. Do you believe strongly that St. James needs to promote itself to the community and to communicate the exciting things that are happening? The Communications Committee is looking for someone to handle the advertising to the Waterdown Community (i.e. notices to community newspapers, local cable channel for special events, etc.).  If you are interested, contact Shelley Armstrong, or 905-690-7482.


Ever wonder how the church looks so good? Who shovels the snow in the winter and maintains the gardens in the summer? If you are interested in helping to create and maintain a welcoming atmosphere from a building and grounds perspective, the Property & Grounds Committee is looking for new members. This Group of committed individuals meets Thursday mornings from 9am to noon to work on various repairs and maintenance projects, and includes a coffee and fellowship time.
