History:

1828 to 1843 - Wesleyan Methodist circuit riders preach in Waterdown & area.

1843 to 1925 - Waterdown Methodists congregate in stone church on Mill St.

1925 - Church Union - Methodist church becomes Waterdown United Church.

1957 - Waterdown United Church moves to current site (C.D. wing).

1961 - Sanctuary is completed at current site. Church is renamed "St. James".

Our Beliefs:  Certain creeds and faith statements, like the Apostles' Creed or the Nicene Creed, affirm the basic beliefs of the Christian Church.  The "20 Articles of Faith" of the United Church of Canada are helpful too, and can be accessed through the United Church link above.  At St. James, we often use the United Church's "New Creed" as an affirmation of our Christian faith.

A NEW CREED

We are not alone, we live in God's world.

We believe in God: who has created and is creating, who has come in Jesus, the Word made flesh, to reconcile and make new, who works in us and others by the Spirit.

We trust in God.

We are called to be the Church: to celebrate God's presence, to live with respect in Creation, to love and serve others, to seek justice and resist evil, to proclaim Jesus, crucified and risen, our judge and our hope.

In life, in death, in life beyond death, God is with us.  We are not alone.

Thanks be to God.
